I’m hard to reach.
Given my demanding roles as a scientist and teacher, I try to dedicate as much remaining time as possible to learning and writing. Maintaining active correspondence is incredibly rewarding but also extremely time-consuming. After much introspection, I have chosen to be hard to contact so I can focus more time on my work.
Many writers (far more esteemed) have faced this problem. Neal Stephenson: Why I Am a Bad Correspondent. E.B. White: The Morning Mail Is My Enemy. And, paraphrasing Donald Knuth:
Email is great for staying on top of things. My job is to get to the bottom of things.
With that said, I love hearing about interesting books, articles, etc. related to the topics I cover. If you wish to share anything along these lines, please write to blog@bagrow.com. (But please know that I will usually not be able to respond.)
