"E.O. Wilson, naturalist dubbed a modern-day Darwin, dies at 92"

Sad news this morning, famed scientist EO Wilson has passed.

It is hard to overstate his influence. He coined the terms “biodiversity” and “evolutionary biology” 1. I recently read his memoir, “Letters to a young scientist.” Inspiring and highly recommended, even for us non-youngsters 2.

Update: Here’s the NY Times obituary.

  1. And then there is “sociobiology.” He’s been dogged for decades with controversy over that. ↩︎

  2. Keep in mind survivor bias when considering his advice though. ↩︎
